Our Story

How Kinsfolk Began

Kinsfolk was started in 2016 by a small group of caregivers and social workers who shared a common frustration: too many eldercare homes in Singapore felt clinical, impersonal, and isolating. They saw residents being managed rather than supported, routines that left no room for individuality, and families who felt disconnected from their loved ones' daily lives.

So they set out to build something different. They found a space in Clementi — a neighbourhood with deep community roots — and began shaping it into a home, not an institution. The dining table was long enough for everyone to sit together. The kitchen was open, not hidden behind service counters. The rooms were furnished with soft lighting and space for personal belongings.

The name "Kinsfolk" was chosen deliberately. It means family, kindred, people bound together — not by obligation, but by care. That word captured what the founders wanted residents to feel when they walked through the door: that they belonged somewhere.

Over the years, the team has grown, the services have expanded, and the community has deepened. But the founding idea remains the same. Kinsfolk is a place where people are known by name, where meals are shared, where staff sit down with residents rather than standing over them. It is care that begins with listening.

Our Mission

To provide elderly care that honours the whole person — their history, their preferences, their dignity — within a community that feels like an extension of the family they already have.

What Guides Us

Our Values

At Kinsfolk, we hold to the view that eldercare is not simply a matter of managing health conditions or maintaining daily routines. It is about preserving the fullness of a person's life — their relationships, their interests, their sense of identity — even as their needs change. This belief shapes every decision we make, from how we design our common spaces to how we recruit and train our staff.

We recognise that moving into a care home is one of the most significant transitions a family can face. It involves vulnerability, trust, and often a measure of grief. We do not take that lightly. Our approach is to walk alongside families through this process, answering questions honestly, accommodating concerns, and earning trust through consistent, thoughtful care rather than words alone.

Singapore's ageing population brings both challenges and opportunities for the eldercare sector. Kinsfolk contributes to this landscape by demonstrating that smaller, community-oriented care homes can provide a meaningful alternative to larger institutional settings. We participate in industry consultations, collaborate with local voluntary welfare organisations, and share our learning openly with the wider care community.

Our commitment extends beyond the walls of our home. Through our Intergenerational Connection Programme, we actively work to bridge the gap between age groups, fostering understanding and companionship that benefits both seniors and the younger volunteers who participate. We believe that a society that values its elders is a healthier society for everyone.
