Tan Kian Hock
Queenstown, Singapore
My mother has been a resident for over a year now. The thing that struck me most from the beginning was how the staff remembered her preferences — from how she takes her kopi to the Hokkien songs she likes to hum. She does not feel like a patient here. She feels at home.

Clementi, Singapore
We used the respite service when I had to travel for work. The intake was quick and my father-in-law settled in within hours. The staff sent me daily notes, which was really reassuring. The only thing I would mention is that pickup timing could be a bit more flexible, but overall a very positive experience.

My aunt joined the intergenerational programme and she genuinely looks forward to the sessions. She talks about the young volunteers by name. At 82, she learned to use a tablet to video-call her grandchildren in Melbourne. That meant everything to our family.

What convinced me was the food. My father is particular about his meals and Kinsfolk actually took the time to ask what he liked. The nasi lemak on Fridays became something he looked forward to every week. It is a small thing, but it matters.

Toa Payoh, Singapore
We tried two other homes before finding Kinsfolk. The difference is in the atmosphere — it actually feels like someone's house, not a ward. My mother-in-law is calmer, more social, and sleeps better. The open kitchen was something she took to immediately. She likes watching the cooking.

I was nervous about placing my dad in residential care. The Kinsfolk team was patient with all my questions and never rushed me into a decision. Nine months in, I can see that he is comfortable and well cared for. The staff treat him with real kindness — not just duty.

Stories of Care
Behind every stay at Kinsfolk is a family story. Here are a few that illustrate the kind of difference thoughtful care can make.
The Challenge
Adjusting After a Fall
Mrs Ong, 79, experienced a hip fracture and was discharged from hospital needing daily care support. Her daughter, a full-time teacher, was unable to provide round-the-clock assistance at home.
The Approach
Personalised Recovery Plan
Mrs Ong joined Kinsfolk's residential care. The team developed a mobility support plan in consultation with her physiotherapist, incorporated gentle exercises into her daily schedule, and ensured she had company during meals and activities.
The Outcome
Regained Confidence
Within three months, Mrs Ong was walking with a frame independently and had made close friends among other residents. Her daughter visits twice a week and says she feels at peace knowing her mother is safe and content.
The Challenge
Caregiver Burnout
Mr Goh had been caring for his wife at home for four years. His own health was declining, and he needed two weeks of rest to undergo a minor surgery and recover.
The Approach
Seamless Respite Stay
Mrs Goh was admitted to Kinsfolk's respite programme within a day. The team matched her routine as closely as possible to what she was used to at home, and sent Mr Goh daily notes with photos so he could rest without worry.
The Outcome
Relief for Both
Mr Goh recovered well and returned to his caregiving role feeling stronger. Mrs Goh had enjoyed the social aspect of Kinsfolk and the couple now books periodic respite stays so Mr Goh can recharge.
The Challenge
Social Isolation
Mr Siva, 84, lived alone after his wife passed away. His children noticed he was withdrawing — eating less, rarely leaving the flat, and showing signs of low mood.
The Approach
Meaningful Engagement
Mr Siva joined the Intergenerational Connection Programme. He was paired with a university student who shared his interest in local history. Together, they worked on a storytelling project about the Clementi neighbourhood.
The Outcome
A New Sense of Purpose
Within two months, Mr Siva's family reported that he was eating better, talking more, and had regained a sense of purpose. He now attends all three weekly sessions and has become something of a mentor to the younger volunteers.
